Hello Again Stitchers! This week I wanted to make a list of two of the most common embroidery thread brands - DMC and Anchor, as well as links to their websites so that you can sample their wares for yourself if you so wish. I have not been paid to make this post by any of these brands, I am just making them for your convenience.
DMC
DMC a.k.a Dollfus-Mieg et Compagnie is a French company that was founded in 1746 in France, they have a long history of producing embroidery threads and supplies and they are highly regarded. They produce a wide variety of embroidery floss and yarns that are very high quality and this is the brand that I personally choose to use DMC when I can because it creates a lovely experience while stitiching - however, this is a personal preference.
This brand is generally considered to be the 'gold standard' that a lot of other thread ranges can convert into and a lot of commercially available patterns base their thread colours on the DMC range.
Anchor
Anchor was founded in 1866 and the embroidery floss was historically manufactured in Paisley, Scotland. The brand produces a variety of craft supplies in addition to the embroidery floss. Although I do prefer to use DMC, I have found that Anchor threads are perfectly adequate in terms of quality. A bonus to using this brand is that you can substitute Anchor for DMC and vice versa, so if you ran out of Anchor or DMC threads, you will easily be able to substitute one brand for the other.
Happy Stitching XOXO
